We were referred to Suburban K9 by a friend who had the best experience years before. We reached out and after gathering some information started reviewing their online trainers profiles. We immediately knew who we wanted! Doug is the best on all levels, not only with our pup Zoey but us as well. We could not have made it this far without him. If you need someone knowledgeable, intelligent, patient and caring, Doug is your guy!

I emailed Suburban K-9 and got a call within 10 minutes of my inquiry. Now that is what I call speedy service. They set up a time that worked best for me for pick up and drop off. My trainer John Hughes was on time and has always been on time for every home training session. He came and was super patient and explained everything perfectly and always answers all of my questions very well. My Victorian bulldog “stacks” was just a puppy when he went for his first 2 weeks and he was a completely differently behaved dog when he came back as advertised, and his training has been getting better every session. I’d highly recommend putting your puppy or any age dog through their program

I discovered Suburban K9 while researching a board and train in my area. I had recently adopted a 9 month old rescue pup with zero training and quickly decided I needed help. After an initial phone call to discuss my pup and what I was looking to achieve, I met with Sam and John. After meeting my pup, they recommended that board and train was not the best option and that we would have better results with in home training. I didn’t think it was possible to achieve the results I’ve seen under Sam and John’s training, guidance, and frankly counseling. There were some tough days when I was unsure my pup was a good fit, and Sam and John were both understanding and helped me work through the behaviors - both mine and the pups. The progress we’ve made over the past few months is remarkable. Suburban K9 crafted an individual approach specific to my pup and our needs which addressed issues based on urgency. Sam and John were communicative, accessible, and remarkably prompt each and every visit. I highly recommend Suburban K9 to any pet owner. I assume all trainers are of the same caliber as Sam and John and in that case, you will have a guaranteed success.

My dog Benji had the pleasure of being trained and boarded by John Hughes, and after two weeks he came out so well behaved! Prior to training with Suburban K9, Benji was unmanageable when it came to walks, recall, and door manners. John was very attentive with the goals I had for Benji and was very patient with my labradoodle. During his boarding, John gave updates with photos and videos with his training. Benji came back a new dog- able to properly walk next to me without tugging on the leash and able to follow commands properly. I thought I'd never see the day he'd walk next to me calmly. After training, John followed up with Benji and told us to never hesitate to reach out to him with questions. Thank you so much John and Suburban K9!

Had an amazing few months with Nick training our Goldendoodle Reese. We were having a hard time controlling her during walks and out in public places. After all our sessions, she truly is a reformed dog!

Each week Winston and I eagerly awaited Nate’s visit. His easygoing yet confident training manner was effective in getting Winston’s attention—he really seemed appreciative to learn! Right now I am working on the lessons and hope to see Nate in the future!

Holly can teach an old dog new ways! Wow we are so impressed with Holly. She has helped us with our 6 year old dog Brody. We had tried MANY different methods with Brody. He was aggressive with people coming into our home. Last week Brody was hanging out with a bunch of 15 year old boys at our house. We are so grateful to Holly for guiding us in the right direction. We chose the year plus program. It is worth every penny. If you are on the fence do it! My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner!

Working with Suburban K-9 and Holly was a very easy and professional experience. Starting with our first visit I was able to walk my dog around the block. Prior to that, he usually pulled me down the block! He is a very crazy and hard headed boy, but with lots of help and patience we were able to get him to petsmart, the dog park and the vet without too much stress and craziness. He will always be a “work in progress” just because of his nature, but with all the help and advice from Holly and Suburban K9 we now have the tools that we need to tackle any issues that come up! Thank you! 4 years later…we did some “refresher” sessions with Holly. Honestly, it was more for the humans than the four legged friend. He actually remembered most things and he immediately knew Holly when she walked in the door. We did more training with the e-collar this time and everything really fell into place. We have been going to a very large dog park where the dogs have access to over 40 acres of trails, woods, bog and ponds. He normally sticks close, but those times he starts exploring and gets out of sight we call him to come or use the pager on the e-collar and he comes bounding up all smiles and happy! It has been so enjoyable to let him be “free” in the park and watch him just being a dog. I can’t thank Holly and Suburban k-9 enough. I would highly recommend them to anyone who has a dog of any age. It makes an amazing difference not only in the life of your animal, but in the entire household too!

We recently completed the board and train program with LaShaunti and could not be happier with the improvements we have seen in our dog. Prior to training he was unable to greet guests at the door and was a big jumper. We have learned how to handle those situations better and see him making better choices when we have guests at the house. It was also nice to receive updates while he was gone as I was a little uneasy being away from him for a couple of weeks at a time. LaShaunti was quick to respond if I had any questions and provided detailed feedback on how his progress was going along with videos and pictures that made me feel at ease. I would definitely recommend the board and train program.

I signed my almost 6 month old puppy for the 2 week board and train with LaShaunti. I was super hesitant at first to leave him but LaShaunti and Suburban K9 answered any and every question I had. LaShaunti sent pictures and updates every other day which was very comforting and so exciting to see the progress he was making. When my pup came back, he respected me so much more than before and listens so well. The prong collar was very helpful for this process. All in all, I highly recommend! LaShaunti was AMAZING!

We had a wonderful experience with Suburban K-9, specifically with LaShaunti Bailey! We did the board and train program and LaShaunti was our trainer. We met her for a couple session prior to the board and train and I just knew it would be a great fit! LaShaunti is so passionate about the work she does and cares so deeply for the dogs. I knew our dog, Callie would be safe, loved and well cared for during her board and train. Callie came back a different dog after her 2 week board and train. It was truly amazing! We have decided to upgrade to the Board and Train Plus because we want to continue our training sessions with LaShaunti! LaShaunti continues to teach Callie and the rest of our family and we are so thankful for her help! I would highly recommend LaShaunti Bailey to anyone looking for a dog trainer!!

Nate and Sam were amazing trainers , my doodle did 2 week program and I can’t believe how much she learned in that short time . Follow up visits were essential to keeping us on tack with her training . I highly recommend this program. My family learned how to correctly train our dog for success and I can’t thank them enough. Riley loves her trainers she so happy when they come visit .

I would highly recommend Suburban K9 for anyone who is in need of dog training! From start to finish, they were compassionate with our fur baby, Lanie, and after her two-week board and train program, she is a much more obedient dog! She quickly learned to heel, sit-stay, down-stay and recall from a far distance outdoors. Her trainer, Doug Ellis, was spectacular, and we plan to book more sessions with him because Lanie loves working with him so much. It's so heartwarming to see how excited she gets to see Doug when he comes for an in-home training session! Doug has also been very patient with my husband and I as we learn to be consistent with Lanie's training at home.

My experience with LaShaunti as my dog Kai’s trainer has been transformative. LaShaunti offered a convenient pick-up service and thoroughly explained the boot camp process, including an optional upgrade which I decided not to take. Throughout the two-week boot camp, I received constant updates on Kai’s progress, which I deeply appreciated. Even when Kai was in heat, it didn’t deter the training process. After the camp, the change in Kai was night and day. She mastered commands like heel, sit, and stay, which significantly improved our outings, even in stores. This boot camp served as a reset for Kai and a learning curve for me, enhancing our bond incredibly. The post-camp homework LaShaunti provided was key to maintaining and advancing Kai’s training, contributing to her nearly service dog-level behavior. I am delighted with the outcome – Kai is happier, and so am I. I wholeheartedly recommend LaShaunti’s boot camp to any dog owner looking for a profound positive impact on their pet’s behavior. LaShaunti did a wonderful job training my young German shepherd! We did board and train with follow up appointments to make sure my pup is on track with her obedience and manners! Very detail oriented and attentive.

We have been training with Nick Smoots since ~ August 2023 and he has been an AMAZING trainer and I am so thankful for all his help. We came to Suburban K9 with some pretty major issues with our adolescent Rottweiler Lucy. She had become highly reactive to almost all dogs she did not know and was constantly tugging and biting at the leash and at me on walks. Nick has helped me repair the relationship with Lucy and become much more confident in handling her. He has given me the tools to get her to focus on me/help stop her fixating on the things that make her react. Our walks have improved 100x better since we started working with Nick and our general relationship is so much better. We still have things to continue to work on, but Nick has given me the confidence to keep building and working on everything we are learning and become the leader Lucy needs. Lucy and I both look forward to our training sessions each week. I cannot thank Nick enough for all his help so far and look forward to continuing to work with him!

I have learned so much and my pup has come such a long way. Worth every penny and so grateful to Holly and the whole team!!

Our seven-month-old pomeranian, Bizzy, went through a two-week boot camp with John. Bizzy wasn’t potty trained, was difficult on walks, and struggled with general obedience. However, after his boot camp, Bizzy is potty trained, is a pleasure to walk, and has the necessary basic obedience to make our days with our pup better! We would highly recommend John, Sam, and the Suburban K-9 team!
