WHAT OUR IN-HOME TRAINING CLIENTS ARE SAYING
- We thoroughly enjoyed our experience with Suburban K9 Dog Training. Our trainer was John and he was fantastic with our dog! A lot of the behavioral issues we were struggling with were squashed in the two weeks with John and we learned the tools necessary moving forward to have a well behaved pup at home! John gave great updates, and did a good job making my partner and I comfortable with the new training at the go home visit. 10/10 would recommend!read moreread lessEmily K.1/21/2025Best decision we made was going with Suburban K9 and doing the in home training classes for our 9mo Amstaff Ellie May. Our trainer Holly has been wonderful to work with and has help us with the basics to now working off leash/e-collar training. Our girl has come along way in such a short time. We originally signed up for 15 classes and realized quickly we'd benefit from the 1 year package as we head back into warmer weather. Can't say enough nice things about our trainer Holly. She has been extremely patient with my wife and I as training a Amstaff/Pit has it's challenges and they are extremely stubborn. Thank you again for getting us on the right path.read moreread lessjack o.1/18/2025Nick was awesome in helping our puppy learn obedience! We noticed a huge difference in her behavior within a few weeks. Very grateful to Suburban K9 and highly recommend their services!read moreread lessLauren M.1/16/2025
- I was introduced to Suburban K9 through a friend's referral. My miniature dachsund, Toby completed a 2-week board and train with Sabrina Lopez and also completed follow-up training and an additional board and train with John Hughes. Both Sabrina and John were fantastic. After the 2-week board and train, my puppy learned basic obedience commands (heel, sit, down, stay, etc.), became so much better with potty training and went through crate training which has made such an impact on my day to day routine. In addition to the incredible training received, Sabrina and John gave Toby one on one attention, helped with his socialization skills and I have some of the most adorable pictures of him playing with other dogs, people and more. I would recommend Suburban K9 - especially Sabrina and John - to anyone and everyone. It was worth EVERY penny.read moreread lessLauren A.12/26/2024We’re a family of three in Chicago with a 7 year old dog who either loves people or despises them. Meeting new people is really hard for our dog and having new people over has been really challenging for many years. She will bark her head off and get right up close to people and scare them (she’s almost 60 lbs). We eventually stopped having new people over or we’d stuff her in a room with the door close and a sound machine on to try and calm her down, but it wasn’t a great solution. Our son is just starting school and he’s making friends and we wanted to be able to have his friends and their parents over for playdates so we decided to contact Suburban K9 after hearing a recommendation from an acquaintance. Our dog has gone through multiple rounds of training so we were skeptical and viewing this as a last ditch effort to see if we could get her comfortable with strangers in the house. We’ve been working with John for a few months and the results have been amazing. Absolutely life-changing. Last weekend we had new people over Saturday and Sunday with our dog off leash - something I never would have thought possible. The training methods make sense and are easy to practice on our own and John has been great at coaching how we should interact with our dog and the people who come over. Training is fun and productive and we love working with him and are so pleased with our new found lease on dog owner life.read moreread lessTara G.12/23/2024It was SO helpful to work with Nick and K9. We adopted a rescue puppy and had no idea what we were in for. Having the home visits with Nick was so helpful in our understanding on how best to take care of her. She was a super tough client too. I really appreciated Nick's patience and the flexibility in which he looked for the best approaches for our unique girl. We are so grateful for the support we got from Nick and lessons we learned.read moreread lessKelley V.12/23/2024
- Nick was great. He's direct, firm, and patient to name a few. My family had an excellent experience with him and will likely continue training on a needed basis.read moreread lessKristin G.12/23/2024My octagenarian parents had their hands full with their two and half year old yellow lab. Abbey had been to three other trainers without much success. But then we came across Suburban K9 and trainer Nick. We couldn't be happier with the progress she has made so far. Her behavior issues have improved greatly. She's even going to her crate when asked to, which a few months was unimaginable. We are confident Abbey is finally on the right path thanks to Nick and Suburban K9. If your pooch needs a bit of help, give them a holler!read moreread lessPeter K.11/23/2024
- Sam was awesome. My family and dog are unique. I have an almost 4 year Shiba inu. You suffers from resource guarding and had a family bitting incident. We signed for a 10 session plan. While issues are not totally resolved and we are signing up for another 5 sessions. The progress she has made is very noticeable and my family is back to being comfortable around the dog. The money was well spent. Sam the trainer was knowledgeable, firm but kind to our dog. She made feel comfortable with all techniques used. Also if you say that you uncomfortable with something they will not continue. I was originally skeptical of the use of a prong collar once demonstrated and actually put on my arm to see how it felt and was not a big deal.read moreread lessRachel F.11/23/2024Samantha helped has been helping us with getting my reactive dog to cohabitate with a dog/cat. She’s been amazing teaching us training techniques and approaches that have improved my dogs behavior tremendously!!read moreread lessJp S.11/23/2024My partner and I were lucky enough to be able to work with both Kati in Madison and John in Chicago during our 1 year program with Suburban K9 to train our golden retriever Willy. We started when Willy was 9 months old and had a lot of the typical puppy problems like jumping, counter surfing, crate training, etc. Kati taught him basic obedience and on meeting strangers out in public. This helped us go from being anxious for him to meet new people to being excited to bring him out into the world! Kati really helped calm our nerves with adapting Willy to e-collar and making sure we stayed on top of our training schedule to get the most out of the program. It was such a great experience working with Kati and we were very sad to leave her when we moved! We worked with John after moving to Chicago who taught the more "advanced" aspects like place, off leash heel and and recall with distractions. John ensured that we got everything we wanted out of our package and made sure by the last lesson we were confident with all that we had learned over the past year. He always brought a calm, fun energy to our training which made us look forward to each session we had with him. I couldn't recommend Suburban K9 more, it was incredible to work with their trainers and have made such a positive impact on our dogs life. We will miss seeing Kati and John!read moreread lessSarah W.10/23/2024
- I found Suburban K9 after adopting 2 puppies (1 year) who were used to livin’ it up on the streets with no rules 😉. I signed up for the 1 year in home program. After only the first visit with Holly, there was already progress! The pups look forward to training with Holly and anxiously wait for her by the window on training days. They have improved so much, it makes it so much easier for me to maintain the new commands on my own with them. I highly recommend Holly and Suburban K9!read moreread lessKrista K.10/23/2024We have had such a great experience over the last 10 weeks working with John and Suburban K9! Our 1-year-old puppy, Moose, has come so far from starting with leash reactivity to becoming a well behaved, Chicago restaurant patio loving pooch!! The obedience training alone really helped give us and Moose more structure to our days. I am now very confident in Moose and his ability to listen to commands and ultimately keep him safe!! We recently moved to the north side of Chicago and highly recommend John for any city training needs.read moreread lessRebecca A.10/23/2024Sabrina Lopez, of Suburban K-9, is truly one in a million. Our family rescued a four-month-old beagle/treeing walker coonhound named Hazel that was, simply stated, giving us a run for our money when it came to training her. Our prior trainer through Suburban K-9 had transferred shortly after Hazel's three-week Board and Train stay and Sabrina took over Hazel's follow-up appointments from that point on. Immediately upon meeting Sabrina, our family, and most importantly Hazel, felt not only at ease, but also the sense that she is truly someone that encompasses that innate gift of being able to connect with animals. Fast forward to our family rescuing a one-year-old red-tick coonhound named Daisy. Sabrina's updates and photos during the one-week Daisy was with Sabrina were both detailed and sweet. Poor Daisy was afraid of everything when we first got her and Sabrina certainly had her hands full. Her follow-up with us was both comprehensive and compassionate. She worked miracles with Daisy during that time, ie., socializing, exposure, overcoming fears, finding her confidence and celebrating it. Since that time, we have continued with Sabrina's training once per month for our girls, to not only address new behaviors or issues that may arise, but also to tweak existing issues that pop up from time to time. Sabrina's abilities to not only train, but to also reinforce and love our family pets is absolutely priceless. Her passion, as well as her knowledge, is second to none. Thank you for helping our family with both Hazel and Daisy, in keeping them on the Good Dogs path!read moreread lessHeather H.10/23/2024
- We are working with Sabrina for our 2.5 year old corgi, Mallow. Mallow needed more individualized basic obedience training than just a group class and had some resistance to being around young kids. Sabrina has been amazing in helping Mallow! She is friendly, a great trainer, super knowledgeable, and really cares about the dogs she works with! She’s helped our stubborn girl a lot with obedience and has helped her be more comfortable around kids by bringing her young daughter to training sessions for exposure. We signed up for the year long program, and can’t recommend it and Sabrina at suburban k9 enough!read moreread lessSamantha10/23/2024LaShaunti. Kept my Sadie in her home for two weeks. Sadie came home learning how to walk next to my knee, she sat on command and stayed in that position while there were distractions. I am very pleased with her training and would call upon LaShaunti again.read moreread lessRose B.10/23/2024I can't say enough good things about Suburban K9 Chicago! With our first baby on the way, we knew our seven-month-old golden retriever, Harry, needed some obedience and leash training. We reached out on a Thursday and heard back the same day. They paired us with Len, who was absolutely amazing. Len did a two-week board and train with Harry at his home, which was a huge plus for us. Harry got real-world training in authentic settings like restaurants and family gatherings. Len even pushed a stroller on walks to help Harry get used to the idea of a baby! The take home session at our home was fantastic, helping us introduce our newborn to Harry smoothly, learn his obedience commands, and demonstrate his new heel walking. We also had another follow-up with John, and since they all use the same commands tailored to each dog, the transition was seamless. John even assisted with off-leash training in our neighborhood park. Harry is now so much better behaved, and we know he was well taken care of. We’re incredibly grateful to Suburban K9 and highly recommend them!read moreread lessMichael T.10/23/2024
