Why should I brush my dog?
The Furminator is a great dog brush, but why should I brush my dog in the first place? Brushing dogs is an essential aspect of their overall health and wellbeing. Here are some reasons why it's a good idea to brush dogs regularly:

How should I brush my dog?
Furminator will help minimize vacuuming
Routinely brushing your dog with your Furminator not only makes their coat look great but will massively cut down on how much vacuuming you have to do! We do recommend brushing your dog outside as this will also help minimize vacuuming.
Avoid the head!
The Furminator brush like most dog brushes is best to use on your dog’s body, and their haunches. Please avoid using these brushes on their heads, ears, or the back of their legs to avoid irritation. Zoom Groom and the aforementioned Slicker Brushes tend to be better options in these areas.
Bath Your Dog First
When brushing your dog, focus on long strokes starting near their neck and go the length of their body. You can also focus in a few areas in short sweeps. Bathing your dog before brushing will help release the under coat. This will make brushing a lot easier! Bear in mind, these brushes are made of metal and are designed to be gentle to dogs, but can cause irritation if you are too forceful!
Looking for a Brush to Use While Bathing Your Dog?

The Furminator brush is best for breeds like German Shepherds, Pitbulls, Corgis, Golden Retrievers, Huskies, Vizslas, and other similar breeds! This model comes with the Fur ejector button and the rubber grip handle!
We recommend this brush over the Furminator on curly haired dogs. For curly coated dogs, like Labradoodles, we would recommend Slicker Brushes, as they are designed to help detangle and prevent matting.
Breeds with very short hair, such as Doberman’s, who shed less, most likely do not need a Furminator and a Zoom Groom would be the best option. This brush is made of rubber and works in the same way as the Furminator, but is a lot gentler on extremely short haired breeds!
What are the advantages of the Furminator?
The version of the Furminator we use in this video comes with a convenient Fur Remover button that helps you remove the fur from the brush. These brushes can range anywhere from 15-30 dollars, but are well worth the investment! We also love the sleek design, coming with a nice handle so that you have a good grip and an easy to store hole in case you want to hang this brush up!
What are the disadvantage of the Furminator?
The Furminator is not the best brush for all dogs, but one of the best for many of them. Like we talked about before, if your dog have a very fine and light coat or a curly one, this may not be the brush for you. Another potential issue is that while the brush is designed to collect the hair and then remove it at the push of a button you will still get some excess hair coming off the dog that the brush will not catch as you can see in the video. It is best to use in an area of your home that is easy to sweep up (wood, tile, or linoleum floors) or just go outside.
Should I get a Furminator?
If your current dog is keeping you busy sweeping and vacuuming and has a thicker coat with little to no curling then this is the brush for you!
