The Wishbone is a classic Benebone shape and the one we most recommend. It comes in all the sizes listed above. The Wishbone Benebone is offered in Chicken, Bacon, and Real Peanut Butter Flavors. This offers a vast array of options for even the pickiest of dogs to choose from. From our testing the Bacon version seems to be the favorite of most pups, after all who doesn't love Bacon! This shape resembles a chichen's wishbone and has three legs of chewing surface. At the end of each leg, there is a rounded portion which offers plenty of chewing potential for your pup!
The fishbone resembles the body of a fish. Complete with head and tail, the body section is made up of 4 peg like bones. In our opinion this benebone offers the most chewing surface to your dog. They can chew on the head, tail, and each of the 4 individual bone sections. This offers the most longevity of any of the Benebone products. Fishbone comes in the most logical flavor of Salmon. While it makes sense, we wish that this shape was offered in additional flavors as it is our favorite shape, but the limited flavors mean that some dogs might not like it.
While a bone might be the most natural thing for a dog to chew on, the next is a stick. So Benebone offers the Maple Stick and the Bacon Stick. The names refer to the difference in flavor. The Maple is flavored with real maple wood, while the bacon is flavored with the same traditional bacon flavor of the wishbone and other shapes. Each end of the stick has a Y branch giving your dog plenty of chewing potential.
The Zaggler is probably our least favorite shape. It looks like a double sided top, but doesn't really look all that fun. It is probably best suited for dogs that are extremely hard chewers as the two ends of this shape are thicker than the other options. It comes in the same three flavors; Real Chicken, Bacon, and Peanut Butter as the Wishbone, which we would still recommend over the Zaggler.
The Dental Chew comes in the standard 3 flavors of the other options the shape resembles two handles with ribs on them. The ribs are good for helping clean your dogs teeth. However the overall shape is somewhat basic and we think the other options above are much better.
The pawplexer is a very interesting product and we plan a full review of this product on its own. It combines the classic benebone chew toy with the ability to place other treats/toys in the rubberized center. It is available in bacon flavoring only and is the only product we reviewed that comes in 3 sizes (small, medium, and large), although we don't really mind that because we don't recommend the tiny or giant benebones. From what we have seen so far of this product dogs seem to go after whatever you place in the center of the chew toy and then leave to chew toy behind to focus on the prize.
What Dog's is the Benebone Appropriate for?
Dogs have a natural desire to chew and the Benebone satisfies that desire in a positive manner. Properly sized benebones are good for almost all dog sizes. There are however two types of dogs that the product probably is not good for. There are some dogs that don't show an interest in chewing on things. This would mean that the benebone would largely go ignored. The other type of dog is the type that prefers to eat just about everything that they are given. As mentioned above the Benebone is a nylon chew toy and is not meant to be eaten. If you don't know if your dog will try to eat the chew toy we highly recommend watching them closely when given the toy. If they try and eat it, we recommend to take it away from them.
How Long Do Benebones Last?
Benebones will last a good amount of time for most dogs, but the actual duration will depend on how hard of a chewer your dog is. For your hardest chewers the Benebones tend to last between 2-3 weeks. For dogs that show less of a drive to chew, you can probably get a few months out of a benebone before needing to change it out.
When Should you Replace?
Benebones website offers a very helpful replacement chart that details the best time to change out your dog's bone. Are Benebones Safe for Dogs
We feel that Benebones are a safe option for dogs when used properly. The key word here is when used properly. It seems that many people don't understand that Benebones are a chew toy and are not edible. The most serious risk to a dog using the toy properly is fracturing a tooth while chewing. However, we feel this same risk applies to other chews, including natural ones like Antlers. To some extent when you have a dog that likes to chew you have to decide what level of risk you are willing to accept. If you don't give them chews, they are likely to chew something.

This Benebone product review can be summed up by saying that the majority of the Benebone product line up is a buy! Make sure that you size your product right and choose the best flavor and shape based on our review above.
