WHAT OUR IN-HOME TRAINING CLIENTS ARE SAYING
- I can't praise Erin Hrdick and Devon Oakes of Suburban K9 enough! New pups bring love and joy, and also challenges. Willy, our black and white Shih Tzu, came to us a loving, rambunctious bundle of joy at 4 months old. He was partially potty and crate trained, but lacked any significant discipline, leash skills or social skills - He barked and growled at all strangers and other dogs and was startled at every turn when we tried to walk him out side. At 5 months we learned of Suburban K9 Training and their excellent results and high reviews. We signed Willy up for their 2 week boarded training course. We missed Willy, but got regular reports and photos of him in his various training and social situations. I can't praise the Suburban K9 trainers that worked with Willy enough - Erin Hardick and Devon Oakes. Willy lived and trained in Erin's home and had full spectrum training in big box stores, dog parks, social environments, busy parking lots, and dog parks, as well as day to day local areaeas. He met and learned to deal lots of people and developed the ability to interact and play with various other dogs and a cat! When he came home, he was tired from a very busy two weeks(!), but was so different! Still a wonderful playful bundle of joy, but now disciplined and proficient in not only the basic and some advanced commands and leash walking, but also able to handle everyday human and animal social encounters in a variety of distracting or new environments. He significantly advanced his potty training and crate comfort level. He is still a pup, and has room to improve and grow in many ways, but the stress level of educating and integrating a new member into our family, and for Willy as well, is way, way reduced! We have had two follow up sessions with Erin and Devon (in our home and a coffee shop - Included in the training package), to go over any issues or concerns that have come up, and to receive additional training tips. I highly recommend Suburban K9's training program - You and your pet will be forever grateful!read moreread lessVince A.9/23/2024Devon at Suburban K9 Dog Training has worked wonders with our 1 year old Golden Retriever, Goldie. Within a very short period of time, Devon has taught Goldie to sit, drop (i.e toys thrown for her to retrieve), lay down, walk to our heel and stop counter surfing. We've just moved into a new home and Devon has taught Goldie to understand that she isn't to go upstairs - its unbelievable to see Goldie follow us as we walk towards the staircase and then stop at the bottom step as we continue to walk up the stairs. Today we took Goldie to Home Depot and we received numerous compliments from people who praised how well behaved Goldie was (she walked to our heel the whole time and immediately sat every time we stopped walking) - Devon deserves all of the credit for this. We highly recommend Suburban K9 Dog Training and in particular Devon (Phoenix - AZ).read moreread lessBen S.7/23/2024Devon was great and gave us all the tools to train our 3 pups. - In January we brought home a 7mo old Doberman and we knew right away we needed help with dog training. We found Suburban K9 and we are so happy that we did! William and Devon were amazing to work with. We explained what we were looking for and they were able to exceed those expectations! We were regularly informed of Higgins progress with photos! At the end of 2 week board/train the Higgins that came home was major improvement!!! We love the one on one interactions with the at home appointments that provided us with tools we need as dog owners. William and Devon are awesome trainers we will always count on them for any future training needs. Thank you Suburban K9 ! 🙂read moreread lessmorgan5/23/2024We adopted a 12 week old pitbull puppy from the rescue. He’s adorable, but a terror to say the least. We wanted to make sure he was very well trained but didn’t feel like going through the hassle of doing so ourselves. We’ve taken past dogs to classes at pet smart but never are satisfied with the results. We sent our puppy “Walnut” to live with Devon and William for two weeks. He came back the best trained dog I’ve ever had. When he left he had never been walked on a leash before and they had to drag him to the front door. Literally drag. Now, he has a flawless heal and is such an enjoyable walking partner. We take him to stores and restaurants without any worry whatsoever that he’ll misbehave. He also learned to sit, lay down, stay, wait, and they worked on a number of other behavioral concerns we had. We still have to do plenty of learning ourselves, and Walnut is still a puppy so he has a ways to go, but the follow up visits help so much in those areas. We already plan on booking more follow up training in the future to build on the foundation Devon and William laid for us. I also want to point out how impressed I was with the love the trainers showed for Walnut. They treated him like their very own puppy. Expressing plenty of love and affection for him. It’s not just a job for them. They love what they do, and they love the dogs they work with and out their whole heart into. We’re very pleased! Also the trainers made sure to keep us updated with photos and phone calls through the whole experience.read moreread lessHarrison C.3/23/2024Suburban K9 helped us tremendously with our 5 year old German Shepard! From the start, they listened to what our needs were and then provided a detailed plan of action on how to address our Shepard's training needs. The trainers are professional and knowledgeable and really work with you and your puppy to optimize success. I would highly recommend them for any services that one may need. Our trainer Devon Oaks has always had our dogs best interest at heart and has been really great to work with. Highly recommend!read moreread lessTod H.1/23/2024
- We have 2 large reactive dogs in our family. One was reactive out of love - needing to make friends with everyone she meets. The other was reactive out of anxiety and fear - lunging at people and other dogs to tell them to keep their distance. Since both dogs are about 70 pounds we knew we needed to make a change and learn how to manage their behavior. We opted for the 1 year package and we are so thankful that we did. Our trainer, Devon, has changed our lives and our dogs lives for the better. We used to barely be able to walk them on leash, and now they are able to join us on dog friendly patios and on off leash hikes. We would highly recommend working with Devon at Suburban K9 if anyone is struggling with their dog’s behavior.read moreread lessMolly B.1/23/2024Devon Oakes has been the dog trainer for my Malti-poo puppy for over a year. He knows instructional behavior and uses it with positive reinforcement for obedience, socialization and environmental comfort. Devon sincerely loves my malti-poo and we think of him as part of our family. He is patient and kind but is not afraid to give a stern NO for inappropriate behavior or inaccurate learning. All done with love - no question or concern about that.I highly recommend Devon as a dog trainer. We were so happy with him that we bought the extra 5 lesson package. He has made my malti-poo the dog she has become: an obedient, eager-to-please, loving dog.read moreread lessAnne M.3/06/2023Jared in Phoenix is an awesome trainer. - We are so thankful to Jared & Suburban K9! We rescued an almost 4 year old German Shepherd, who came from a home where he was mainly an outside dog, but was crated inside during the night. He had many behavioral issues inside, i.e. jumping onto (& over) the couch, jumping on beds, attacking brooms & the vacuum, and would continuously pull on the leash during walks. Jared fixed all of these problems during Kado’s 2 week board & train in his home. Since Kado has been home, he is a joy to be around! Walks are so much more enjoyable, and he no longer jumps on anything he's not supposed to. Another love Kado has is fetching (or taking) any kind of ball he can get a hold of. He almost didn't know how to control himself with any ball in sight before the training. He now is very good about ”dropping” the ball and is able to stay laying down in the backyard while we chip & putt- he actually resists his urge to go after the golf ball even when it rolls past him! Again, thank you Jared!read moreread lessDaniela V.1/06/2023Our Whoodle would counter surf, play keep away with any item she wasn't supposed to have, dash out the front door, and jump on guests when they entered the home. After only two weeks with Jared our dogs behavior has completely changed. All her issues are fixed and she follows specific commands. We can even enjoy walks with her without her constantly pulling us around the neighborhood. - Misiu and I LOVED having Katelyn work with us! I rescued Misiu in Feb. 2022, from a shelter in Texas. He was scared of everything and everyone except me. He was on MULTIPLE anxiety medications a day, and came with a big warning of his uncontrollable anxiety. I couldn't take him on a walking trail because if we saw another person or a dog, then he would bark and growl and I would feel very uncomfortable and didn't want him to cause any harm and be marked as a "dangerous dog". When I moved out to AZ, I instantly decided we needed some training. We were long past the known "3-3-3" (3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months) for him to feel comfortable with me around, but now I needed to be comfortable with him in public. When I first met Katelyn, I had my boyfriend distracting Misiu in another room because I didn't want him to possibly hurt her while she was trying to get into the house. We worked a lot on leash reactivity and overall obedience. Once we got that handled, we started getting him out in public to be around dogs, kids, and other adults. Katelyn pushed me as an owner to trust the dog I couldn't see quite yet. Needless to say, Misiu now can go to the dog park and runs around with the biggest smile on his face. I can walk him comfortably through stores that allow dogs, and right past any adult or child without fearing that I need to turn around or even restrain so hard that my hands are sore after I release my grip. Misiu also is on absolutely no anxiety medications! He also gets overly excited when he sees Katelyn coming up to him that sometimes the "sit-stay" command was a little too difficult to maintain. Sometimes these shelter dogs just need a little love and sometimes us owners just need someone to give us a little support and tell us we're doing things okay. I will recommend Katelyn and the Suburban K9 trainers to anyone who is in need of a trainer. I cannot thank Katelyn enough for showing me the beautiful boy that was underneath all of that previous fear.read moreread lessAlexis C.11/06/2022Katelyn Anhalt is a miracle worker! Our Cheweenie, Buster, is a rescue dog who had a very, very tough start to life. As a puppy, he was restricted to a kennel for 6 months (maybe more). His owners surrendered him to a rescue organization as their health was declining and they couldn’t care for the dog. Buster languished at this rescue in horrible conditions for months. The ad for Buster that I found on-line turned out to be a total mis-representation of the situation. Things mis-represented: age, microchip information, potty trained, leash trained, to name a few. In spite of all of these negatives, I fell in love with Buster! Loved his spunky personality, his kisses, his underbite, and his ears (one up and one down). I needed to rescue him so he could have a great life. I knew it would be an uphill battle, but I had trained dogs (Labs and German Shorthairs) so I thought I was up to the challenge. Wrong! Once adopted, I really struggled with his training (potty, leash, manners, obedience, barking), essentially everything! After a tough couple of months, I was hopeless and ready to give up and surrender Buster. Then, miraculously, I saw an ad for Suburban K9 and after going on-line to do some research and reading testimonials, I felt a glimmer of hope. After a thorough review and a comparison to other training programs, Suburban K9 looked perfect. I placed a call. I could not be happier about our experience with Katelyn and her training methods. From our first session, she has exceeded all of my very high expectations. Katelyn is a great listener and communicator (with both dogs and humans). She always checks-in with us to ensure we are on the same page, that we are comfortable with what she’s doing, and we are happy with our progress. Katelyn is patient, energetic, patient, caring..........did I mention patient?.... and she loves dogs and Buster loves her! At the conclusion of our last session, I told her I was putting her on speed dial. Buster has far exceeded the goals we established at the first session. I am truly amazed and extremely appreciative. I pass her contact information to friends who have seen the transformation in Buster. They think he’s a different dog! I recommend Katelyn very highly. You absolutely will not be disappointed. - We went into training feeling very hesitant about whether or not it would help with our 10 and a half month old black lab puppy. I am pregnant and we were very concerned with bringing in a new baby, while dealing with our pup’s lack of manners and boundaries, as well as his endless energy. Devon was able to totally turn things around for us and get our dog back on track. We were and have been super impressed and surprised with all of the progress we have seen from him within the 5 sessions we had initially signed up for. We have gained so much knowledge from our time with him and we know we will have him back as things arise. Devon has helped me to be able to enjoy and love walks with my 65 pound Australian shepherd. There was a time where I couldn’t take him out on a walk because his pulling was too much to handle. Devon has also helped us to work through some dog reactivity we had with our Aussie. I now feel comfortable taking him on walks by myself and I have come to look forward to our walks. Devon also helped us to integrate a German shepherd puppy into our pack and established basic obedience. Our German shepherd puppy was giving us a run for our money and we felt desperate. In just two sessions Devon helped us to establish rules and gave us tools to utilize to help us manage her tough puppy behaviors. One last thing that I really appreciated in working with Devon, is that he took my fears and anxieties into consideration. My dogs mean the world to me and he always put their safety first. Devon allowed me to go at a pace that was comfortable for me while also helping to push the boundaries in a healthy direction that my dogs really needed and benefited from. I could go on forever but needless to say, we would recommend Devon a thousand times over! He is amazing and if we ever need him in the future we will be asking for his services! Thank you Devon!!read moreread lessBrittany M.11/06/2022
