Lauren grew up in a small town south of Milwaukee and attended the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse, where she earned a Community Health Education Degree. After college, she moved to Eau Claire, where she primarily worked with teenagers at the Boys & Girls Club, helping them to gain the tools and skills they need to be successful. Lauren is excited to be back in Milwaukee and have the opportunity to combine her passion and love for animals with her career. Like any dog lover, she has two furry friends, Pal and Kona. In her free time, you can find her water skiing, kayaking, hiking, cooking, and playing disc golf with her husband!

We recently completed a year long training package for our dog Meeka, a deaf Macedonian Shepherd. Meeka had a really tough start to life with many health issues (rickets as a small puppy, then an elbow surgery at 9 months old) that made her lose out on so much of the important puppy socialization time. At 10 months old we adopted Meeka (it's also the time we figured out she was deaf) and while she was super sweet and loved people, she really didn't have any social skills. She was afraid of and reactive to cars, people, and dogs on walks. She's a shepherd through and through so she was protective of her home and yard, and incredibly stubborn. The fact that she was deaf made everything just a little extra challenging for us. That's when we were introduced to Lauren and Suburban K-9. At our initial consult Lauren was confident that Meeka had a lot of potential, it would just take time. We completely trusted the process, and Lauren eased our minds when we had any questions or concerns. She has the patience of a saint (did I mention how stubborn Meeka can be?) and was always thinking on her feet to find solutions to working with Meeka and understanding any physical limitations she had. The fact that Lauren would bring in other trainers or dogs to her training sessions to help with certain behaviors showed me just how invested she was in helping Meeka succeed. Lauren worked closely with us in finding the right signs to use with her and showing/talking us through everything. She always made sure to listen closely to our concerns about any new behaviors that popped up and let us know why that might be happening and the best way to handle it. I've learned so much from Lauren and feel like a much more confident dog owner (even though we already owned 2 dogs!) now that we've worked with her. After completing our training with Lauren, Meeka can go on walks through the neighborhood in a heel without reacting to anything around her, her basic obedience is solid, sits and waits back when someone is at the door, and I can trust her off-leash. My next goal for Meeka is to train her to be a therapy dog that can go into schools or assisted living facilities. Let me tell you, I did NOT think that would be a possibility a year ago. I absolutely recommend using Suburban K-9 for any dog training needs and can't say enough good things about working with Lauren specifically.

Lauren was such an amazing trainer! She catered each training session to our needs and goals with our dog. She was very helpful in setting realistic goals and giving us the tools to be successful both between appointments and also now after training has completed. We are now able to bring our lab out to new parks, coffee shops, and beer gardens and he learned impulse control when guests come over. We didn’t know if we could ever do those things and she made it pawsible! Highly recommend!

We worked with Lauren at Suburban K9, and I feel this was a good investment. First, we went from a puppy that was quite literally a tornado in our home, to one that is a good puppy citizen. We started when our pup was 5 months and just wrapped up at 12 months. By all accounts our pup is still a puppy but behaves like a good dog: sit, stay, lay down, come commands, and overall manners. We loved that training sessions combined in home, parks, and other public places like petco. We have a sense of security knowing our dog can adapt in a variety of settings. We would highly recommend Suburban K9 to work with you / your dog. Not only do they train your dog, but give you the tools to continue training. It's satisfying to watch your puppy grow and become a good doggy.

Our 1 year old golden doodle, Rory, was super high energy and would not listen to us unless we bribed her with treats. After working with Lauren for only 10 sessions, we have seen a world of a difference in Rory’s skills and behaviors. Not to mention she listens to all of her commands with no treats involved. Rory no longer counter surfs, stays in her yard, and is not mouthy. We have been so impressed with Lauren and Suburban K9 Milwaukee and would recommend her to anyone looking for a dog trainer.

Our mini bernedoodle Boomer is as stubborn as he is sweet and lovable. For two years we struggled through treat based training classes with virtually no progression and a pup that concluded he could possibly just do whatever he wants! Our in-home training sessions with Lauren and Suburban K9 were the answer to turning things around. Boomer was taught to listen and behave from a place of respect rather than: "maybe I'll obey if you give me cheese and say pretty please"! He now walks like a dream, plays in the yard off leash, comes when called and goes with us to fun places; all things that are just so thrilling to finally experience with him. Boomer seems equally happy with his new found freedom. I've also become much more confident in my ability (equally important) to continue training with him as time goes on. Lauren accomplished this transformation with us by being unfailingly: kind, patient, understanding, accommodating and professional. Highly recommend!

Everyone from our trainer Lauren to the support staff have done an amazing job. If there was a need to change a session, it was done quickly and to my satisfaction. I chose the 10 lesson plan to see how the training would go. Lauren was so great we had our dog obedient trained by lesson 7 of 10. I will be recommending SuburbanK9 going forward and I will return if needed. Thanks for your excellent services.

We had Lauren Schwabe as a trainer for our dog Odie. Odie is a shi tzu-toy poodle and has a history of aggression and being very possessive of a particular family member. When we first called Suburban K-9, we were seriously considering rehoming or putting her down because of the severity of her aggression. Lauren came to our house for 15 sessions (over the course of about 10 months) and we saw significant improvement within the first few months. Lauren taught us strategies for how to approach Odie's behavioral problems and to teach her to respect us. Lauren was very personable and always a joy to work with. She listened to Odie's history without judgement, and a year later Odie is like a completely different dog. We would highly recommend Suburban K-9 to anyone struggling with a naughty or aggressive dog.

We had a wonderful experience working with Lauren. We have a 2 year old Brittany Golden Retriever who has a lot of energy. Lauren listened to our concerns (pulling on walks, basic obedience, separation anxiety) and provided us with clear strategies to target our goals. She taught us how to introduce our dog to our newborn and worked with our dog in different environments. We also had 2 training sessions with other dogs. Friends, family and neighbors have all commented on our dog’s improved behavior. We highly recommend working with Lauren.

I would recommend Suburban K9 to anyone. It was difficult to say good bye to our puppy for 2 weeks but it was 100% worth it. Winnie (our Australian Shepherd) came back very well trained: responsive to commands and much more enjoyable to walk with (not tugging/pulling). Lauren Schwabe was amazing. She was extremely responsive to any questions/concerns and was very knowledgeable. She also sent us updates and pictures throughout the board which made the separation easier. Lauren is very professional and my Winnie LOVES HER. She obviously cared for our puppy as if she was her own. Overall 10+/10.
