Dog Trainer: Herm Sprenger ClicLock Review
What is a Herm Sprenger ClicLock?
The Herm Sprenger ClicLock is an attachment for Herm Sprenger Prong Collars or Training Collars. This attachment helps users get the collar on and off quicker and easier than the traditional method of attaching a detaching from a link in the prong collar.

Is the Cliclock Right for You?
Prong collars can be a great training tool, but many people have trouble putting them on their dog and taking them back off their dog. The ClicLock solves this problem!
Once you install your ClicLock you can operate your prong collar like a standard flat buckle collar that clips on and off. This is much easier than trying hook and un-hook the individual links/prongs of the collar.
If you don’t have any trouble operating your prong collar then the ClicLock is not really needed. Herm Sprenger collars are great on their own and most people only add the ClicLock if they are having trouble using the collar. This video gives you step by step instructions on how to install the ClicLock and how to use it once it is installed.
Prong collars aren’t for every dog and care should be taken to use them appropriately. Dogs should always be acclimated to prong collars slowly with a plan in place to make it easy on them. This video does not show the process of acclimating a dog to a prong collar, it only shows how to install and operate the ClicLock.
Sizes of the ClicLock
The Herm Sprenger Cliclock comes in a variety of sizes, matching the sizes of the Herm Sprenger Collar Line. It is available in 2.25 which is standardly referred to as small and should be utilized with small dogs. Then there is the 3/3.2 which is standardly referred to as medium. This collar is actually the most common size of prong collar available and is generally used with both medium and large dogs. There is also the 4.0 Herm Sprenger. This is the least common collar size which some people will use with large to giant size dogs. You need to know what size collar you have in order to ensure you purchase the right version of the Herm Sprenger Cliclock.
As we describe in the video the Herm Sprenger Cliclock collar will alter the size of your dogs training collar. It is important to readjust the size of the collar for your dog after fitting the collar with the Cliclock attachment.
Installing the Cliclock Attachment
The Cliclock attachment acts as a quick release for the Herm Sprenger Dog Training Collar. On a modern Herm Sprenger Collar it replaces the middle prong transition which causes the prongs to go in opposite directions of each other. You can see this in the video review of the Cliclock. If you are using an older model of the Herm Sprenger it might not have a center piece to remove. You can still make the product work for you by reversing the direction of half the collars prongs. The catch is that you might need an additional master link to make this solution work.
Make sure that the remainder of the links in your collar are in good shape and not bent before installing the Cliclock, also make sure that each prong is securely inserted into each other before using.
Using the Cliclock
After you have installed the Cliclock on the collar I suggest that you practice using it before trying to put it on your dog. When looking at the Cliclock buckle there is a grey cover over the button that will release the buckle. Slide the cover over to reveal the button below. The button is also grey in color. Once the button is exposed you can press it down and the collar will slide apart. To reattach the collar, place the two ends of the Clicklock buckle together. Once together, slide the grey cover back over the button.
Is the Cliclock Safe?
Any quick release device added to a collar makes the collar easier to remove for us humans, but it also makes it easier for the dog to remove or for the collar to accidentally come apart. That being said, the Cliclock is the only quick release device we have found for the Herm Sprenger prong collars where we wouldn't also recommend another type of collar (martingale, harness, or flat buckle) as a saftey precaution if the collar becomes unhooked.
The reason for this is the cover that goes over the top of the buckle. This protects the buckle itself from being hit inadvertently and the collar coming off.
Clicklock Wear Over Time
If you have taken a prong collar on and off of a dog over a long period of time, you know that the links will eventually bend and wear out. This requires the worn-out links to be removed to ensure a safe collar. The cliclock helps avoid this problem, because you are no longer attaching and detaching the collar from the links. From our testing we have not had a Cliclock buckle wear down to the point where it was no longer latching. We will update this review if this ever happens.
Final Verdict on the Herm Sprenger ClicLock
The Herm Sprenger Cliclock is a great option for people who struggle to get a Herm Sprenger Collar on and off of their dog.
