Freeze Dried treats are a great option for your pup! They stay fresh, taste great, and are healthy compared to other heavily processed treats.
Are freeze-dried treats good for dogs?
We believe that dog treats with the most minimal ingredients tend to be the best! You don’t want a huge amount of additives or fillers that you don’t know what they are or you can’t pronounce. Freeze dried dog treats tend to have only the main freeze dried high grade ingredient and not a bunch of additional fillers. To us, that makes freeze-dried a great choice for your dog!
Additionally, the low moisture content of freeze dried treats helps ensure that bacteria does not form. This helps ensure the treats are healthy for your pups gut.

Butcher Blend Freeze Dried Dog Treats Review
Today our treat tester is going to be Anakin! Anakin will generally like any treats, however I can instantly tell when opening this bag that these were high quality. The freeze dried butcher blend wasn't chalky and didn’t fall apart easily in my hand. They were sturdy and were around the size of a quarter or nickel.
The Butcher Blend is made up of all your pups favorites in a single bag; Freeze Dried Beef Liver, Beef Heart, and Beef Kidneys. In looking at the ingredients, the only three things you will see are; liver, heart and kidney.
They are a perfect addition to any pup who likes additional treats on their food. Anakin certainly seemed to agree. These are also good treats for a Wobbler, West Paw Toppl or West Paw Rumbl. The treats can work really well for stuffing and all these toys are stimulating ways to engage your pup in treat time!
Freeze Dried Chicken Hearts Reviewed
Similar the to the Butcher's Blend, the Freeze Dried Chicken Hearts were also high quality. They were a tad greasier than the Butcher's Blend in feel. Anakin didn’t seem to mind and if anything enticed him more. They are also a bit larger than the butcher blend and have a variety of shapes of treats. The larger size makes them stay in his West Paw Rumbl longer, therefore it kept him busy for longer 😉
Overall we feel Anakin liked the Chicken Hearts over the Butcher's Blend. The larger size and the stronger aroma due to the greasy texture we described were the largest factors in his decision!
The Raw Butcher’s Raw Food
The Raw Butcher has raw pet food available in pucks or tubes on their website. They feature a variety of different proteins which include; beef, turkey, chicken, and butcher blends. The Butcher Blends come with a couple different proteins, much like the Butcher Blend Freeze Dried Dog Treats.
At this point in time, raw dog food is available for order from The Raw Butcher only in the Chicago-land area.

Why are freeze dried dog treats so expensive?
Freeze dried treats do tend to be more expensive than other dog treats that you find on the market. A big reason for this is the quality of the ingredients that are being used. Freeze drying is a more expensive method to start with, so manufacturers generally will only freeze dry ingredients that are of a higher standard. This helps ensure that with freeze dried you are getting to of the line treats!
Do vets recommend freeze dried dog treats?
As with anything nutrition related… It depends on the vet. Some vets see how freeze dried raw retains the most nutritional value. But some vets may argue there is a higher chance of the dog getting sick due to increase in pathogenic bacteria. From our research the risk of bacteria forming does seem lower than other treats due to the lower moisture content of the freeze dried treats.
Do you add water to freeze dried dog treats?
Most people do not add water to their dog’s freeze dried treats. This makes it easy to hand your pup a treat and have them walk away wagging their tail. Some people also add the dry treats to the top of their pups wet/dry food as an extra incentive for chowing down.
If you have the desire to wet your dog’s freeze dried treats, you absolutely can. I would most likely do this as a topper for your dogs food that is even more irresistible. Place the treat in a bowl and add water to around 75% covering the treats. Allow sit for 10 minutes. Once the freeze dried treats have soaked up the water, you can top your pups food with this amazing treat!
How long do freeze-dried dog treats last?
Unopened freeze dried treats are said to have an amazing shelf life. Some people state that unopened freeze dried treats can last for years if not decades if stored properly. Valley food storage's article on the shelf life of freeze dried foods suggests they can last between 25 and 30 years.
After opening your freeze dried dog treats they should last for 30-60 days depending on the ingredients used. It also helps to make sure that they are stored properly.
Storing Freeze Dried Dog Treats
Freeze Dried Dog Treats should be stored in a cool dry place. The darker that place the better. to ensure they stay fresh for as long as possible.
Freeze Dried vs Normal Dog Treats
We think that freeze dried dog treats are a healthier option than most of the treats that you will see on the shelves of your local pet store. This is because they tend to have a small number of quality ingredients and do not contain a bunch of fillers or preservatives.
